Viovandt™

The water you drink shouldn’t just taste fresh – it must be fresh and completely free of contamination. At Borg & Overström, users’ health is our top priority. That’s why we’ve developed a Totality hygiene system for complete peace of mind, complementing our commitment to Direct Chill coolers as the safe way to dispense water. Our Totality™ System consists of four key factors; Sterizen™, Viovandt™, 3M Filtration, and Fynil™. Today, we’re going to be discussing Viovandt™, our UV purifying system. Viovandt™ is our directed UV light, that shines through water as it is dispensed, working to reduce bacteria.

UV technology

When we developed our unique Totality™ system, we wanted to ensure that, as well as being highly effective at reducing bacteria, we provided a system that was safe and environmentally friendly to use.

UV filtration works by use of lamps emitting a particular wavelength, which lies between x-rays and visible light on the electromagnetic spectrum. This light shines through water, disrupting the DNA of microorganisms, eliminating their ability to function and reproduce. If microorganisms are unable to reproduce, they cannot replicate, thus halting the spread of bacteria.

Due to this system using light, it does not contain any of the chemicals that other purification systems use, meaning it is entirely safe to handle, and does not change the taste of your water. This also eliminates any disinfection byproduct.

UV purification systems are highly effective addressing a wide range of contaminants, including;Bacteria

  • Flu
  • Coliform bacteria
  • coli
  • Salmonella
  • Waterborne cysts
  • Viruses

It is more effective than chlorine, or chloramines, especially on some waterborne cysts. In fact, UV purification systems can destroy 99.99% of waterborne microorganisms.

The Viovandt™ complements our Direct Chill system by allowing water to pass through the machine, as opposed to holding it in a tank or reservoir. By storing water stored in a bottle, you create an exposed reservoir, where bacteria is able to grow.  The bottle can develop a ‘biofilm’, which is a coating of microbial matter that can enter the water cooler. There is also a risk of contamination from the handling process of switching the bottles across. By filtering and dispensing at the point of use, we ensure that your water is fresh and hygienic.
